Tips for answering this Cue Card topic:
An important festival of a country can be a major religious festival, music festival, seasonal festival, traditional and cultural festival etc. which is celebrated in the whole part of the county. For this cue card you can talk about any festival which is celebrated in your country nationwide. Do not talk about a festival which is only celebrated at a particular region of your country or among a tribal nation which is not widely celebrated in the whole country.
For the first question sat the festival name (i.e. New Year eve, Christmas, Eid day, Independence Day etc.). If the festival is not widely known and might be unknown to the examiner, say a little background of the festival. Mention if this is a national festival, celebration, cultural or historical celebration or a religious festival and then say the significance of this celebration in your country. To mention the significance of the festival, give the historical/ religious/ cultural origin of the festival and also mention how this is an integral part of the people in your country.
For the final two parts of the questions, you need to give details of the festival and talk about how you celebrate this festival. Mention following points to give details about the festival and your activity:

4W— When, Where, Who, What, Why;
1H— How
Describe a festival that is popular in your country.
You should say:
What the festival is
What time of year it is
What people do during this festival
Whether this festival has changed in recent years.
就該題而言,what time=when, what people do=how, 對照4W+1H, 我們還可以自己加三點提示,即where to celebrate, with whom to spend,和why it is important to celebrate。
(what)The Spring Festival, is one of the\major traditional festivals in China.
(when)It falls on the first day of the first lunar month.
(what to do)Ways to celebrate the Chinese new year vary from place to place, but generally speaking, setting fireworks and firecrackers is a shared tradition and people across China decorate their house with the red color.
(whether)In recent years, Spring festival is more like a time for family get-together and personal relaxation , not a tradition to celebrate.
(where) Chinese people would like to spend the holiday at home, watching TV or playing mahjong.
(who) On this day, family members who study or work away from home all come back and stay together. It is a time for family reunion.
(why) It is essential to have such a festival to celebrate, coz it offers the working people a chance to slow down, to strengthen the family bond and more importantly, to remember their tradition.

Describe a time when you received money as a present
You should say:
Who gave it
When you received it
What you did with it
How you felt about it
Ok, well I’m quite lucky in the fact that I’ve received money as a gift on quite a number of occasions, so it was kind of difficult deciding on which one to talk about. And so in the end I thought it would be easiest just to tell you about the most recent occasion, which was my last birthday.
And the money that was given to me was from my grandparents, which is what they often tend to do for my birthday, because they said to me that it’s probably best that I choose something for myself which I know I’ll like, instead of them choosing something which I might have no interest in at all. So as you can imagine, I was super happy, and was also really grateful to my grandparents for being so generous.
Anyway, regarding what I did with the money, well first of all, I spent some of it on a few new books, because I’m a bit of a bookworm, if truth be told, and whenever I have some money to spare, the first place I normally head to is the bookshop.
So that’s one thing, and as for what I did with the rest of the money, which was actually still quite a considerable amount, well, I thought it would be nice to take my friends out for a meal somewhere and celebrate my birthday with them. So we all went to a ho官方真題Officialt restaurant in the city centre and had a really great time together, although I should add that I wasn’t feeling too great the next morning, because my friends had made me drink a ridiculous amount during the dinner, so it took me about a day to recover!
Anyway, I thankfully still had a bit of money left over, so I decided to just put it in the bank for safekeeping. And that’s pretty much it, so thanks for listening.

Christmas is an annual holiday that, in Christianity, commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ.
Popular customs of the holiday include gift-giving, music, an exchange of greeting cards, church celebrations, a special meal, and the display of various decorations; including Christmas trees, lights, nativity scenes, and holly. In addition, Father Christmas (known as Santa Claus in some areas) is a popular figure in many countries, associated with the bringing of gifts for children.
Over the Christmas period, people decorate their homes and exchange gifts. In some countries, children perform plays re-telling the events of the Nativity, or sing carols that reference the event. Christmas, along with Easter, is the period of highest annual church attendance.
A special Christmas family meal is an important part of the celebration for many, and what is served varies greatly from country to country. In England and countries influenced by its traditions, a standard Christmas meal includes turkey, potatoes, vegetables, sausages and gravy, followed by Christmas pudding, mince pies and fruit cake.
1. Would you agree that the original significance of festivals is often lost today?
No, i don't think so . I think the original significance of festivals is to celebrate our tradition. Every year, hundreds of TV and radio programmes help the public understand the origins of every traditional festival, and elderly people in our country like to talk about the origins to their children continuously. Even though many of the children are not interested in the festival itself, they love listening to the fairy tales or stories of the festivals. In this way, i think the original significance of festivals will be remembered by generations of people.

Media influence festivals in many ways. They can help us create a good festival atmosphere.
