It is indisputable that teachers play a pivotal role in teaching and guidance students in classes. They provide students a lot of precious knowledge which is very necessary for them in the future. However, should teacher show their social or political viewpoints to students? Each person has their own opinion toward this question. Some people approve it but others have the opposite one. In my opinion, I strongly agree with the latter that teachers should not make their social or political point of views in classes because it can reduce studying efficacy and influence viewpoints of students.

First and foremost, those teachers express their social or political opinions on the classes could reduce students’ studying efficiencies. In the classes, it is better for both teachers and students to focus on lectures and related problems. Teachers should discuss with students about

the lectures, share their researching or working experiences instead of talking about their political viewpoints. It definitely will increase the studying efficacy in the classes. Moreover, it also provides students a lot of real and valuable experiences. They could use these if they face difficulties when they work in the real environment. Indeed, when teachers show their point of views on the classes, it should be considered to waste time of students

Last but not least, when teachers make their social or political viewpoints known to students, they may influence students’ viewpoints. As a matter of fact, students usually do not have definite social or political standpoints. They are quite naive because they pay all their attention on studying and academic issues. Therefore, when teachers like showing their viewpoints, they may discuss or talk continuously about that issues. This really has an influence on the opinions of students, especially when their teachers’ opinions are biased. Additionally, this also prevents the free development of students. For instance, when my teacher usually express his disapproval about government, he makes us have the same opinions with him. Hence, most students of our class consider the policies or agreements of government are wrong or unsuitable without having any understanding about it. Obviously, the viewpoints of teachers have the potential to change the viewpoints of students

All in all, because when teachers manifest their social or political viewpoint on classes, it influences the studying effectiveness and students’ positions, I personally consider this is not a necessary work. I strongly recommend teachers concentrate on teaching and discussing academic-related issues on classes.

1. 人山人海:有人直譯為:People mountain people sea.

這就是「中國(guó)英文」,老外很難理解。他們指「人多」時(shí),通常只說(shuō):「There is a large crowd of people.」如果看到電影院門(mén)前大排長(zhǎng)龍,也只說(shuō):「There is (was) a long movie line.」

不過(guò)在詩(shī)詞用語(yǔ) (poetic expression) 里,老外也有使用:「a (the) sea of faces」,頗有咱們「人山人?!沟奈兜馈@纾?/p>

Looking out upon the sea of faces, Mr. A delivered a touching speech.(望著一片人山人海的聽(tīng)眾, A先生發(fā)表一篇?jiǎng)尤说难菡f(shuō)。)

Standing at his podium, President Clinton saw a sea of faces waving at him.(柯林頓總統(tǒng)站在講臺(tái)上看到人山人海的人群揮手向他致意。)

可見(jiàn),說(shuō)話者通常要在臺(tái)上或高處,才有「人海」的感覺(jué)。因此,可以說(shuō):I saw a sea of faces from the top of the building. 但在平地的人群中,就不說(shuō):「I saw the sea of faces.」也不說(shuō):「There is a sea of faces.」只說(shuō):「I saw a large crowd of people.」

2. 家家有本難念的經(jīng):有人譯成:Every family cooking - pot has a black spot. (意思是:每個(gè)家庭的鍋?zhàn)佣加泻谏奈埸c(diǎn))

這樣說(shuō)法,老外恐怕不能充分了解。不過(guò)老外最常的說(shuō)法是:

Many families have skeletons in the closet. (許多家庭的衣柜里都有骨骸) (骨骸就是指家丑)

或者說(shuō):

Every family has its own source of shame. (每個(gè)家庭都有自己的丑事)

說(shuō)白些,就是:

Every family has its own problem.

3. 天下無(wú)不散的宴席:有人直譯為:There are no feasts in the world which do not break up at last.

老外聽(tīng)后,也許很難體會(huì)其中意義。如果按照美語(yǔ)說(shuō)法,也許更易理解:

All good things come to an end. (意思是:所有好的事情,總有結(jié)束的一天。)

假如是指好友最后也有分別的一天,那么可以說(shuō):

Eventually, all bosom friends will drift apart. (bosom friend 是指知心的好友)

4. 平時(shí)不燒香,臨時(shí)抱佛腳:有人照字直譯為:When times are easy, we do not burn the incense,but when the trouble comes, we embrace the feet of the Buddha.

這種說(shuō)法,老外也會(huì)「一知半解」。美語(yǔ)里一般說(shuō)法是:

Worship God every day; not just in times of adversity. (要每天敬拜神,不是只在困難時(shí)。)

對(duì)學(xué)生也可以說(shuō):

If you study hard every day, exams will not seem overwhelming. (如果你每天用功,考試就不會(huì)形成壓力。)

5. 掛羊頭,賣狗肉:有人照字直譯為:He advertises mutton, but sells dog's flesh. 或 He hangs up a sheep's head at the shopfront and sells dog meat.

這兩種譯法,恐怕老外都難理解,尤其談到「狗肉」,他們更會(huì)「反感」,因?yàn)楣肥撬麄冏類?ài)的寵物,不過(guò)老外倒有相近的說(shuō)法:

He applied bait-and-switch tactics in business. (他經(jīng)商的策略是先引誘顧客來(lái),再改變貨物的品質(zhì)。)

(Bait-and- switch 當(dāng)名詞用) (也可不用連字號(hào))

This store uses bait and switch policy.

或者簡(jiǎn)單的說(shuō):

Let the buyer be aware! (讓消費(fèi)者提高警覺(jué)) ;或 Say one thing and do another.

6. 一言既出,駟馬難追:有人譯成:One word lets slip and four horses will fail to catch it. 或 A statement that once let loose cannot be caught by four galloping horses.

這兩種說(shuō)法,中文味道嫌重,老外未必理解。不過(guò)他們倒有類似的說(shuō)法:

A word once let go cannot be recalled.

或者說(shuō):

You can not take back what you have said. (你說(shuō)出的話,就不能再收回來(lái)。)

7. 禍從口出,言多必失:有人譯為:The mouth is the gate of misfortune and evil.

老外聽(tīng)了,恐怕不能完全理解。最好說(shuō)成:

Careless talk leads to trouble. (不小心說(shuō)話,會(huì)帶來(lái)麻煩); 或 The less said the better. (說(shuō)的愈少愈好)

甚至也可以說(shuō):

Shut the mouth and open the eyes. (閉嘴少說(shuō),張眼多看。)

托福寫(xiě)作常見(jiàn)誤區(qū)有哪些?

誤區(qū)一:托福寫(xiě)作字?jǐn)?shù)越多越好。

當(dāng)我們單純的看到"字?jǐn)?shù)越多越好"的時(shí)候,可以說(shuō)這是有一定的道理的,因?yàn)槿绻愕淖謹(jǐn)?shù)越多,那么就越能更好的闡明自己的觀點(diǎn),但是很多考友特別喜歡將這種思路發(fā)揮到極致。要知道其實(shí)托福作文如果能達(dá)到350字-450字就已經(jīng)很好了,只要達(dá)到這個(gè)范圍內(nèi)基本上就不會(huì)對(duì)你的分?jǐn)?shù)產(chǎn)生任何負(fù)面的影響了。

誤區(qū)二:剛開(kāi)始寫(xiě)作文,就要限定時(shí)間。

當(dāng)我們剛剛開(kāi)始準(zhǔn)備作文的時(shí)候,我們現(xiàn)在國(guó)內(nèi)的很多考友們,有可能在真正準(zhǔn)備新托??荚嚨淖魑闹坝锌赡軓膩?lái)都沒(méi)有寫(xiě)過(guò)幾篇作文,因此當(dāng)面的托??荚囘@么多字?jǐn)?shù)的要求的時(shí)候,常常會(huì)覺(jué)得自己無(wú)所適從。因此很多人,在準(zhǔn)備不充分的情況下就限定自己一定要在規(guī)定的30分鐘時(shí)間之內(nèi),完成托福作文。

殊不知,任何一個(gè)考試都是要循序漸進(jìn)的,作文也是如此。當(dāng)我們剛開(kāi)始準(zhǔn)備作文的時(shí)候,首先要追求的是成功率,也就是完成度,而不是時(shí)間。換句話說(shuō),在準(zhǔn)備托福以及SAT作文的前期,首先要做的,是完成作文,也就是不管花多少時(shí)間,一定要讓自己的作文達(dá)到300字以上,而且如果自己準(zhǔn)備考試的時(shí)間比較充分的話,最好剛開(kāi)始的3-5篇作文都是不給自己限定時(shí)間,首先追求的是能把作文寫(xiě)完,然后當(dāng)我們感覺(jué)有話可說(shuō)的時(shí)候,在提升自己的新托福寫(xiě)作速度,換句話說(shuō)也就是限定自己在30分鐘之內(nèi)完成自己的獨(dú)立作文。

誤區(qū)三:不注重語(yǔ)法的準(zhǔn)確。

現(xiàn)在的很多考友是生活在用英語(yǔ)的環(huán)境之中的,比如說(shuō)現(xiàn)在有很多考友是在美國(guó)或者英國(guó)上高中的,當(dāng)然也有很多考友是在國(guó)內(nèi)純英語(yǔ)的國(guó)際學(xué)校求學(xué),這些環(huán)境往往是全英文的環(huán)境,本來(lái)一個(gè)全英文的環(huán)境是十分有助于英語(yǔ)水平的提升的,但是實(shí)際上,純英語(yǔ)的環(huán)境對(duì)于英語(yǔ)的語(yǔ)法要求并不嚴(yán)格。
