There is an increasing amount of anti-social behavior and lack of respect for others. What are the causes of this problem and what
are your solutions? 2010.1.30
Nowadays, some individuals behave in anti-society way, such as committing a crime. In general, it is the society to blame. What causes the anti-social behabiors of individuals? who should be responsible for dealing with it? 2011.01.22
Anti-Social Behavior: This term generally refers to actions that deviate significantly from established social norms. Behavior that fits within this definition will vary to some degree, based on the social environment in which the child lives. This kind of behavior commonly includes skipping school, getting into fights, running away from home, persistently lying, using illegal drugs or alcohol, stealing, vandal-izing property, engaging in aggressive or violent behavior towards other individuals, and violating school rules, home rules or local criminal laws.
What is anti-social behavior?
Anti-social behaviour is defined as behaviour that is not appropriate for a particular environment. A student for example, yelling in a classroom, or jumping up and down is not appropriate behaviour for a classroom setting, so deemed antisocial behaviour. But, jumping up and down when the football team scores a goal is appropriate, not antisocial behaviour. So you look at antisocial behaviour in a context, in a given context if the behaviour isn't appropriate, it could be considered anti-social.
How does a child develop anti-social behavior?
Anti-social behavior is developed by responding to a particular environment of the youngster. Oftentimes the youngster isn't properly guided so that this behavior--the inappropriate behavior--usually works for the youngster. A good example is when he pulls "Sally's" hair in the classroom because he's afraid or nervous about taking that history test. He pulls the hair, he gets sent to the principal's office, now he doesn't have to face the history test; he's avoided that. So that anti-social behavior--he's responding to his environment in a way that he thinks is appropriate. So he needs to be re-educated in that area.
Will my child "grow out" of anti-social behavior?
It is possible for your child to grow out of anti-social behavior but not by himself. That's where you come in as a parent--where you detect that he's avoiding something or he's doing something that's not appropriate; then you have to develop a plan to help him redirect those energies so that they become appropriate so that in effect he handles whatever problem it is. Oftentimes if you need help, you consult the classroom teacher or you consult the counselor at the school level; and they can provide specific insights for you as a parent.
When should I seek professional help for a child who is acting anti-socially?
When you feel that your child is exhibiting anti-social behavior then you should try these interventions. Firstly you should consult with the classroom teacher and the school counselor. if you're not making head way, and you feel that your youngster's anti-social behaviour is getting more and more serious, then it's time to seek professional help. You may want to consult your physician, or perhaps there might be a counseling agency that your physician might recommend or potentially you have some community contacts in which you can get a therapist involved in helping you correct his anti-social behavior.
What should I when I can't control my child's anti-social behavior?
When your child exhibits antisocial behavior and if you feel that it is beyond your control or beyond the control of the school setting - in other words, if it is very serious - then you make contact with a community counselor, perhaps a physician, you get some guidance in that direction. Then you work as a team with that consultant from the outside to devise a plan to help your child correct those behaviors so that he eventually becomes again on the straight and narrow.

There is a widely perception in contemporary society that the amount of anti-social behavior and lack of respect for others is proliferating. In the following essay, the causes of this issue will be firstly discussed and some feasible solutions to it will be offered succeedingly.
To my knowledge, the root cause of this issueis that (表語從句必須加上連詞)the environment and society we live in tend to be out of control morally. It is not perplexing to figure out the proportion of teenagers who act anti-socially and lack respect for others is increasing at a high speed. But if we notice what have been broadcasted by TV, and radio programs and the information available on the Internet, we will not be surprised at this. Since there is no strict censorship either in mass media or video products, violence, self-centricity, delinquency and so on are everywhere, so that youngsters, being affected easily by others, tend to imitate the same actions they have known. Another contributing factor is that due to the faster and faster pace of living, people tend to be under a society with greater pressure. Consequently, they are more likely to be cynic and act abnormally to unleash their complaints and discontentedness on others.
To ameliorate this situation, I assert that its root causes must be first addressed. Perhaps the most effective way is education. By teaching the youth what is right and what is wrong, the society helps them to establish their own values based on the social moral standard. Additionally, outstanding models should be praised or awarded while the delinquents must be punished seriously. One further method of solving this problem lie with the government which is responsible to help people in need get out of pressure. It might be useful to build a beneficial welfare system.
Based on the arguments mentioned above, I am convinced that if we can finally solve the problems indeed, then the amout of the anti-society behaviors and lack of respect will be greatly reduced.

Nowadays, the issue of anti-social behaviour and lack of respect for others is not uncommon. This is especially true among young people. There are mainly two causes of this phenomenon--the negative influence of mass media and the decline of the family and poverty.
As the mass media become increasingly commercialized, program producers and publishers of books are more focused on ratings, which is clearly associated with profits. Therefore, violence of all kinds is presented on TV and in books. The constant exposure to violence is to suggest people that violence is an ordinary way of life, and that shooting and cheating are possible ways to succeed. We also notice that our societies and even our families have become less cohesive, as people have to struggle to cope with the challenges of life. The decline in our sense of community and family has gone hand-in-hand with the rise of individualism. People increasingly look after their own interests without considering the needs of society.
Accordingly, it is the government's responsibility to introduce restrictions and supervision on the mass media, i.e. not allowing certain TV programs at given times, or by limiting the number of books published according to their content. Families and schools also play equally important role in dealing with this problem. Parental guidance is a key factor of self-cultivation in one's lifetime. Parents can spend more time staying with their children and patiently carry out the duty of family education. For children who exhibit some anti-social behaviour, schools should help them to realize what they did is wrong rather than giving up on them.
Overall, although the problem of anti-social behaviour and lack of respect for others seem to be inevitable, we must recognize its negative effects on the society as a whole and work on effective measures to diminish its adverse influences.

The rapid proliferation of antisocial behavior seems to be an increasingly widespread problem. The public yearning(呼吁、渴求) for more prisons and tougher sentences outweighs prevention of criminal acts. However, it is more urgent to identify the underlying root causes, rather than to deal with the crime with stringent measures.
The most common factor responsible for crimes is poverty. People who cannot make their ends meet are very likely to commit crimes as a last resort. It goes without saying that poor and unemployed individuals have much higher likelihood of committing crimes. Exposure to violence is another factor that contributes to crimes, especially youth crimes. Without proper parental guidance, some young adults get deeply addicted to the Internet and become heavy net users. Some of them are eroded (侵蝕) by violence and pornography online, which is closely linked to their aggressive behaviors.
More and more people, notably the experts, are complaining about the problem and I believe that the government, schools and parents should all be blamed. Many governments fail to popularize education and create more jobs. As a result, some people go to extremes, giving rise to more crimes. Many of the older generation, especially parents, might not be supportive enough and fail to be moral models. Of course, schools are also responsible for some misbehavior. Teachers always ignore the importance of moral values, thus failing to make youngsters be more considerate to others.
To sum up, this unpleasant phenomenon can be attributed to several factors, including poverty and the lack of parental supervision. The government should take more effective measures to raise living standards of those economically impoverished individuals and parents should give correct and immediate instruction to young adults.
What is Antisocial Behavior?
Antisocial behavior can be generally characterized as an overall lack of adherence to the social mores and standards that allow members of a society to coexist peaceably. According to some studies, individuals with antisocial behavior disorders are responsible for about half of all crimes committed, though they make up only about five percent of the population. Most of those with antisocial behavior disorders are male. Of the females that account for a smaller portion, most are not physically violent.
Antisocial behavior can start out in childhood, adolescence or adulthood. In children it is referred to as a conduct disorder, in adults as antisocial personality disorder. Conduct disorders developed early in life, prior to puberty, are more likely to continue into adulthood and also more likely to be aggressive. Conversely, a child that develops antisocial behavior at or after puberty has a better chance of the disorder not continuing into adulthood.
The Causes
Antisocial behavior as seen in children is a growing concern among educators. Escalating violence in schools is an outward manifestation of antisocial behavior. Researchers have linked certain factors to the childhood form, finding it is often passed down within the family, though the genetics of this are not well understood. There also seem to be other common factors. Children with conduct disorders are often victims of abuse or have been exposed to aversive or punitive environments. Parenting is often inconsistent, swinging from excessive leniency to excessive punishment.
Too many young people are becoming immune to violence and aggression or perceive being tough as something to admire and emulate. Violence and self-serving behaviour seems to be endemic in a society driven by competitiveness, materialism and a win at all costs mentality.
Greed and anger destroy the ability to relate in a fair or healthy manner. Trauma is passed down and results in lingering resentment and anger that can injure other people until addressed and worked through instead of acted out.
The Performance and Effect
Signs of conduct disorder can show themselves in frequent instances of defiance or antisocial behavior that might include lying, stealing, and destruction of property. Some children with conduct disorder set fires, skip school at an early age, and run away from home. This can lead to variety of negative psychological effects on the suffers, including aggression and withdrawal.
A person with conduct disorder or antisocial behavior might appear very charming and outgoing at first. However, friendships are hard to maintain as it becomes clear that it is too difficult to be close to this person. What at first seems to be daring and fun activity soon becomes dangerous and thoughtless.
People exhibiting antisocial behavior are extremely selfish and self-centered. Adults that are affected by antisocial behavior that did not have conduct disorder as children might initially get involved with white collar crime or become abusive to a spouse or family member. The nature of the negative behavior can escalate with time. The worst cases of antisocial behavior as seen in adult criminals, such as murderers, can usually be traced back to earlier conduct disorders as children.
Antisocial people create mountains of pain and damage for those unfortunate enough to be their prey or victim. If you maintain contact with such people you may become like them in an effort to survive or in reaction to their mistreatment.
Who Should Be Responsible and How to Solve?
The best advice is stay away from those who cheat and lie or treat you badly and see no problem with their abusive choices. The greatest harm occurs in families where such behaviour is excused, ignored or tolerated. In fact, many families are a breeding ground for potentially violent offenders.
Most of society's worst criminals showed clear signs of antisocial behavior as children. Today's parents are called upon to watch for signs so that the condition can be treated. Children or adolescents with conduct disorder will show three or more of the following signs consistently in his or her personality traits:
Behaves impulsively, thoughtlessly jeopardizing the safety of himself and others.
Is manipulative, lies or cons his way through situations.
Will not follow rules, enjoys breaking the law.
Borrows money without repaying it.
Steals.
Is overly aggressive, often picking fights.
Is willing to hurt others emotionally or physically without remorse.
Is arrogant and overly confident.
Likes to set fires.
Is cruel to animals.
Antisocial behavior in adults is not easily treated by psychotherapy or medication, as there is little motivation for adults to change. If you suspect an adult with this disorder it is best to avoid him or her as much as possible to protect yourself and your family. Anyone who believes their child might be exhibiting signs of conduct disorder should seek professional help immediately.
? Nowadays some individuals behave in an anti-social way, such as committing a crime. In general, it is the society to blame. What causes the anti-social behaviours of individuals? Who should be responsible for dealing with it?
Pros: (agree)
Cons:
