托福寫(xiě)作段落銜接常用方法
1引用例子
托福寫(xiě)作輔導(dǎo)提到對(duì)于一個(gè)觀點(diǎn)的提出,往往后面會(huì)跟著例子進(jìn)行進(jìn)一步的解釋說(shuō)明,那么如何引出接下來(lái)的例子或者數(shù)據(jù)呢?主要的幾個(gè)短語(yǔ)詞組有:regarding / as whether to / as regard / in respect of / with respect to / in terms of等,前三個(gè)詞組后面是跟句子,而后三個(gè)詞組后面加的是詞組或者名詞短語(yǔ),這點(diǎn)要注意區(qū)分。考生們可以用這些詞匯來(lái)承接觀點(diǎn)和例子,使得文章更為連貫和流暢。不過(guò)要注意不要使用about,這不是書(shū)面用語(yǔ)。
對(duì)于舉例子一般分為這幾類(lèi):
例子比較具體,考生可以使用namely,to be more specific/more specifically等,引出一個(gè)比較詳細(xì)的事例。
引用名人的著作或者話的時(shí)候,要注意reference,比如:A number of writers, notably Frank (1974) and Rostow (1967) refer to this issue…格式問(wèn)題要引起重視。
如果是想要強(qiáng)調(diào)某個(gè)之前提到過(guò)的內(nèi)容,或者是特定的某個(gè)內(nèi)容的時(shí)候,可以用in particular/particularly。
同樣的,不建議過(guò)多的使用for example / take...for example / such as等,比較口語(yǔ)化,不太formal。
2前呼后應(yīng)
如果想要對(duì)之前的內(nèi)容進(jìn)行總結(jié),呼應(yīng)全文,那么考生就可以使用這些詞匯:accordingly / therefore / consequently / as stated earlier in … / the aforementioned work / as stated above in (paragraph two)等。
3句子中的承接
往往,托??荚噷?xiě)作中句子與句子之間的銜接是最容易掌握的,可以使用一些表示因果、轉(zhuǎn)折、并列等關(guān)系的連詞將其連接。常見(jiàn)的就有so,nevertheless,besides this,furthermore等等。不過(guò)還是要少用as for/as to/besides這些比較口語(yǔ)化的詞匯。再者,such,this也是很好的承接詞,比如In such situation,In this cases等。
4數(shù)字關(guān)系
這點(diǎn)在小作文里面使用的比較多,比如描述A和B的數(shù)據(jù),可以使用respectively或者separately,描述時(shí)間順序可以用chronologically等等。

審題,是寫(xiě)作的第一步,卻經(jīng)常被大家所忽略。有太多考生只著眼于如何寫(xiě)出漂亮的句子和高級(jí)的詞匯,而沒(méi)有搞清寫(xiě)作的本質(zhì)--考察學(xué)生針對(duì)某一話題進(jìn)行準(zhǔn)確連貫表述的能力。這也是為什么很多同學(xué)雖然英語(yǔ)不弱,在托??荚嚨莫?dú)立部分中卻只能拿到 fai r或 good 當(dāng)中較低的4分。那么到底怎樣才能更加容易地拿到獨(dú)立寫(xiě)作的滿分呢? 筆者今天將通過(guò)列舉以往考過(guò)的真題進(jìn)行解析,告訴大家如何審題,換句話說(shuō),如何使高分變得更加achievable。
同學(xué)們考寫(xiě)作考了這么多年,大多數(shù)出題的形式都已爛熟于心,看到題目之后覺(jué)得熟悉于是興沖沖提筆就寫(xiě),其實(shí),這種看似"熟練"的表象下藏著巨大的隱患--同學(xué)們很有可能因?yàn)榭吹锰於雎阅硞€(gè)決定題目意思的關(guān)鍵詞。例如:
例1:
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Advertising is the only main cause for people's unhealthy eating habits.
看到這個(gè)題目,同學(xué)們立刻會(huì)開(kāi)始想,有沒(méi)有other reasons for unhealthy habits,想出三條如:1. People's tight schedules do not allow them to eat at regular hours; 2. Sometimes people are eager to lose weight or to keep fit so that they go on "endless diets"; 3. Bearing heavy burden both physically and mentally, some consider eating constantly as their most effective stress reliever. 綜上所述,advertising is not the only cause.
這個(gè)寫(xiě)法看起來(lái)非常完備,但其實(shí)犯了一個(gè)不起眼卻嚴(yán)重的錯(cuò)誤--題目不是要我們證明it is not the only cause,而是要我們?nèi)プC明it is not the only main cause。多一個(gè)"main",意思是很不一樣的。如果我們只需要證明it is not the only cause,那么找出other causes即可即例1中的寫(xiě)法。但是,如果我們要證明it is not the only main cause,就需要證明other causes that we mentioned are also main causes,這就需要在每一段中加上一些專(zhuān)門(mén)的說(shuō)明?;蛘?,更簡(jiǎn)單的辦法是去證明advertising is not even a cause, 直接在每段的末尾加上advertising與該段所論述的unhealthy eating habit無(wú)關(guān)的論述即可。If it is not a cause, how can it be the onlymain cause? 這樣一來(lái),就不用通過(guò)證明還有其他main cause來(lái)反駁了,事實(shí)上,證明某種cause是main cause還是挺有難度的,因此筆者推薦同學(xué)們用后一種方式進(jìn)行論述。因此,文章還是disagree,而三段的主題句分別應(yīng)該是:1、1. People's tight schedules do not allow them to eat at regular hours, and it is obvious that they are too busy to be influenced by advertising; 2. Sometimes people are eager to lose weight or to keep fit so that they go on "endless diets", and this is more like a result of human nature, the pursuit of beauty, but not advertising; 3. Bearing heavy burden both physically and mentally, some consider eating constantly as their most effective stress reliever, and it is quite clear that no advertising encourages them to do so.
例2:Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Colleges and universities should offer more preparation for student before they start working.
看到這個(gè)題目,很多同學(xué)會(huì)可能會(huì)這樣寫(xiě):Agree. 1. Students should take morespecializedcourses(專(zhuān)業(yè)課)in order to be knowledgeable and skillful enough for their future careers(接著開(kāi)始論述being knowledgeable and skillful的重要性); 2.Participating in internships helps students to have a clearer picture of their vocational development in the future(接著開(kāi)始論述,如果沒(méi)有實(shí)過(guò)習(xí),在工作的時(shí)候是多么地feel so unprepared); 3. Attending more club activities is an effective way to improve social skills, which are crucial for success both in life and at work(接著開(kāi)始論述good social skills對(duì)職業(yè)和生活的幫助).如果不看括號(hào)里的內(nèi)容,僅看主題句,這篇文章是沒(méi)有任何問(wèn)題的。然而,括號(hào)中的論述從嚴(yán)格意義上來(lái)講,是不能支持"more"這個(gè)關(guān)鍵詞的。舉個(gè)簡(jiǎn)單的例子:"我們需要錢(qián)"和"我們需要更多錢(qián)"在證明的時(shí)候重點(diǎn)是不一樣的。如果證明"我們需要錢(qián)",應(yīng)該詳細(xì)
闡述錢(qián)的"不可或缺性",比如生活、學(xué)習(xí)、教育都需要錢(qián);但是如果證明"我們需要更多錢(qián)",重點(diǎn)則應(yīng)該放在"錢(qián)不夠"的論述上,證明在學(xué)習(xí)、生活、教育方面的預(yù)算都很緊張。同樣地,上面的題目中僅僅證明Knowledge for careers, field experience and social skills are important是不夠的,事實(shí)上,這些根本不需要證明,需要證明的事情是graduates today are not well prepared in the three aspects. 因此這篇文章應(yīng)該是一篇"抱怨型"的文章,詳細(xì)地去論述學(xué)校工作的不足。參考思路如下:Agree. 1. Many students today complain that they cannot learn practical skills and up-to-date information, for some of their teachers are not qualified enough to teach specialized courses; 2. Since many students are not allowed enough time to participate in internship programs before graduation, they know very little about what their future jobs like; 3. Joining clubs is possible for every college student, yet not every club provide is capable of offering enough opportunities for students to practice their social skills.
同學(xué)們?cè)趯?xiě)文章的時(shí)候一定要注意,學(xué)術(shù)論文寫(xiě)作不是句型和辭藻的堆砌,整篇文章一定是一個(gè)well-organized system,這個(gè)system中很重要的原則之二就是--
1、每個(gè)中間段的topic sentence是用來(lái)支持main idea的;
2、topic sentence后面的每句話都是用來(lái)支持該topic sentence的。在上面的兩個(gè)例子中,大家會(huì)發(fā)現(xiàn)例1的錯(cuò)誤主要是main idea沒(méi)有很好地被topic sentence支持;而例2的錯(cuò)誤在于topic sentence雖然看起來(lái)是支持main idea的,但是論述的內(nèi)容可能跟關(guān)鍵詞"more"無(wú)關(guān),從而不能有力地支持topic sentences。這些錯(cuò)誤的起因,則是對(duì)題干中關(guān)鍵詞的忽略。
托福綜合寫(xiě)作四點(diǎn)建議
一、閱讀:尋找核心句和關(guān)鍵詞,切忌word by word
英美人寫(xiě)文章的總體邏輯可以概括為總分或總分總。而托福綜合寫(xiě)作的閱讀材料多為前者布局,且多為四段式(首段總起,三段分別展開(kāi))。
首段主要用來(lái)提供背景信息或者提出話題,(注意:閱讀和聽(tīng)力是同一個(gè)話題,極少考到觀點(diǎn)相互補(bǔ),多為觀點(diǎn)相對(duì)立。)而作者的立場(chǎng)或論點(diǎn)多位于首段的最后一句,聰明的考生會(huì)把注意力多集中于首段的尾句,確定作者的立論點(diǎn),從而對(duì)于下一階段的聽(tīng)力大致話題和論述做到心中有底。
隨后的段落即展開(kāi)給出作者之所以立論的三個(gè)分論點(diǎn)或論據(jù),在單個(gè)的段落當(dāng)中,又遵循了西方人慣有的總分模式,單個(gè)段落的首句多為topic sentence,考生可以只關(guān)注三個(gè)段落的首句以快速獲取段落主要內(nèi)容,從而避免全文通讀速度不夠而導(dǎo)致的來(lái)不及看完閱讀。
二、聽(tīng)力:判斷說(shuō)話人立場(chǎng),記錄觀點(diǎn)和支持性論據(jù)
聽(tīng)力環(huán)節(jié)的筆記很重要,是決定綜合寫(xiě)作能否順利完成的關(guān)鍵因素。沒(méi)有經(jīng)過(guò)訓(xùn)練或者疏于練習(xí)的同學(xué)會(huì)對(duì)于該記什么無(wú)從下手,結(jié)果就是筆記做了,自己看不懂,或者筆記太過(guò)凌亂,毫無(wú)可利用性。
要知道聽(tīng)力該記什么怎么記,此時(shí)應(yīng)當(dāng)牢記心里的仍然是西方人的邏輯性。“總分”表明了在聽(tīng)力的開(kāi)始段是表明說(shuō)話者立場(chǎng)和論點(diǎn)的,那么按照我們之前分析的,閱讀和聽(tīng)力必然是同主題,所以聽(tīng)力開(kāi)始時(shí)候大家不必忙著亂記一通,事實(shí)上,什么都不用寫(xiě),鎮(zhèn)定情緒,聽(tīng)清說(shuō)話者的立場(chǎng)即可。
接著,和閱讀中相似,說(shuō)話者會(huì)從三個(gè)方面闡述支持自己的觀點(diǎn),很多情況下,這三點(diǎn)和閱讀中的三點(diǎn)是剛好契合,一一對(duì)應(yīng)的。但聽(tīng)力三方面的分論據(jù)往往是從閱讀中無(wú)法推斷的,所以分論點(diǎn)及論據(jù)是需要同學(xué)進(jìn)行筆記的,應(yīng)當(dāng)記的是key words,切忌洋洋灑灑想記全一句話,最后自己也難以讀懂。
三、想辦法提高自己的記憶容量
各位考生不妨觀察一下自己抄寫(xiě)英文句子的情況。大多數(shù)未經(jīng)訓(xùn)練的第二語(yǔ)言學(xué)習(xí)者很可能都是每寫(xiě)下一個(gè)詞就要回去重新讀一次才能繼續(xù)抄下去--有的時(shí)候甚至可能需要每寫(xiě)一個(gè)字母就要返回文本重看一眼才能繼續(xù)。這說(shuō)明此人的記憶容量只能容納一個(gè)詞(或者甚至連一個(gè)詞都容納不了)。記憶容量大的人理解文本更為容易,又因?yàn)槟軌蚶斫馑杂洃浳谋靖尤菀?,進(jìn)而又因?yàn)槟軌蛴浀米《?lián)系上下文更為輕松,而記憶容量過(guò)小的人基本上連看完一篇文章都非常吃力。不過(guò),只要稍加訓(xùn)練,記憶容量就會(huì)擴(kuò)充至足夠用的地步。迅速將自己的英文記憶容量提高到“夠用”的地步,最好的方法就是通過(guò)“跟讀”、“朗讀”訓(xùn)練平日積累。因?yàn)槔首x可以非常有效而又迅速地提高文字理解能力。這很關(guān)鍵,記不住的最重要原因并非"記憶力差"--無(wú)論記憶力多好,都很難記住無(wú)法理解、無(wú)法關(guān)聯(lián)的信息--聽(tīng)得懂才容易記得住。
最后是大家比較關(guān)心的模板問(wèn)題。綜合寫(xiě)作中,要將閱讀和聽(tīng)力觀點(diǎn)整合起來(lái)時(shí),如果在準(zhǔn)備階段備有一套好用的模板,那么就是如虎添翼了。好的模板在課堂上就會(huì)發(fā)給同學(xué),但是我們建議考生應(yīng)當(dāng)備有自己獨(dú)一無(wú)二的模板,通過(guò)對(duì)同義換詞,句型多變,做到集多個(gè)好模板于一身,又毫無(wú)雷同的獨(dú)家模板。
