The argument over New York's ban on sales of super- sized high- sugar drinks continue to goup. Meanwhile, the Coca- Cola Company recently made a two-minute advertisement showing itselfas part of the solution to America's obesity(肥胖)problem. Food writers and doctors eyed it withdisapproval. "Oh, please!”wrote famous author Marion Nestle.
There really isn't anything to say about drinking soda (汽水).A super-sized drink with123grams of sugar is short cut to heart disease and obesity. One in three Americans today is obese, compared to one in five in 1990. There's no single cause for this increase, but one is almostcertainly the linking for soda drinks.
Other nations drink soda more responsibly. Japan drinks 34 liters per person, compared to 165liters per person in the United States. More examples are Russia(30 liters per person),Italy(49 litersper person)and South Korea (27 liters per person). In the United States, soda is the most consumeddrink; they drink almost twice as much as they do bottled water.
Soda outside America isn't necessarily healthier. It's in the way that people drink it. As withmost things like food and drink, the Italians do soda better. It has 23 grams of sugar in a standard-sized bottle. They drink it as a mid- afternoon treat in limited quantities, which is how Americansused to drink it. They don't have it like water at every meal.
The problem is not soda but the people. Yes, the industry targeted children by placingmachines in schools. Yes, they spent millions protecting sales of their products. But, with all theevidence, we're the ones who are buying it.
24. Marion's words "Oh, please!" show that she _________
A. hopes Americans will fight obesity B. thinks the soda argument should stop
C. disagrees with Cola- Cola's statement D. is angry with the prohibition on sale
25. In America, soda seems to _________________.
A. contain more sugar than before
B. be more popular than any other drinks
C. be considered as the root of health problem
D. have an increasing number of consumers
26. How do the Italians drink soda in a responsible way?
A. They drink a limited quantity at every meal.
B. They drink bottled water at the same time.
C. They cut down the amount they drink.
D. They drink it mainly in the middle of the day.
27. What is the author's opinion on soda?
A. It should be forbidden from selling.
B. It is actually healthier than he thought.
C. Americans think too much about the bad effects of it.
D. Americans should change their ways of dealing with it.

Electricity bills can be highly expensive and the power we consume comes at an even greater cost to the environment when you consider that over 85% of the electricity produced in the United States comes from fuels. Whether you’re concerned about cleaning up the environment or you simply want to reduce your electricity bill, residential wind power generators(發(fā)電機(jī))could be a solution.
Producing windpower at home will not work for everyone. If you live in a over-populated residential area, there may be certain laws and zoning requirements that prohibit the use of windmills (風(fēng)車).If you live on 1 acre of land or more, you probably won’t have any issues but you should investigate carefully to make sure that wind power generators are both legal and practical where you live. Even if there are no laws or regulations prohibiting wind power generators you still need to be in a location that gets enough wind on a regular basis.
Some producers of wind generators recommend that you live in an area with wind speeds that average at least 10 mph. Newer models have been developed recently that can operate with wind speeds as low as 4 mph but maximum efficiency is achieved at higher wind speeds. Before you fix a wind powered system, you will have to determine your power requirements. Will you be usingit to charge a small battery for a boat or vehicle or will you need enough power to run your entire household and be completely off the grid (電網(wǎng))? Once you know what your power requirements are,you can start shopping around for a system that can meet those needs.
Wind power generators are a great solution for a lot of people. They’re an ideal solution for remote locations where it would be impractical or simply too expensive to tap into the grid. They are quiet and totally clean, producing no pollution. They require no fuel and very little maintenance. Residential wind power offers a lot of benefits but it’s not for everyone. You’ll have to have some money up front to pay for the system and equipment; however, you could save quite a bit of money if you’re able to do much of the work yourself. You’ll also need to live in an area that gets enough wind to make the equipment worthwhile. You’ll need to do your homework before you make a purchase, but wind power generators could be a great solution for producing clean, low-cost energy.
28. What is the main idea of the first paragraph?
A. Electricity bills can be highly expensive.
B. Most of the electricity in the US comes from fuels.
C. Generating electricity does harm to the environment.
D. Residential wind power generators are useful and necessary.
29. What can we infer from the passage?
A. wind power generators enjoy a lot of benefits.
B. you can place wind power generators wherever you want.
C. wind power generators are affordable to most families.
D. wind power generators are an ideal solution for everyone.
30. What attitude might the writer hold towards residential wind power generators?
A. Negative B. SupportiveC. Skeptical D. Cautious
31. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Ways of Fully Using Wind Power
B. How to Reduce Your Electricity Bill
C. Alternative Solution—Wind Power
D. Function of Wind Power Generators

Though there are about 400 languages from all over the world that are in danger of disappearing completely,ZoqueAyapaneco,a native Mexican language is considered the most likely to become extinct, because the only two people in the world that speak it fluently do not talk to each other!
And,it's not because they live in different countries, states or even villages. In fact,Manuel Segovia and Isidro Velazquez, both in their 70s,live within 500 yards of each other,in the village of Ayapa in the Southern Mexican State of Tabasco. They, however, refuse to communicate because they simply don't have much in common.Segovia is apparently a little flank in nature while Velazquez is described as shy.
Segovia was at least able to talk in ZoqueAyapanece with his brother until he passed away about 12 years ago,and still manages to practice it with his family, especially his son Manuel, who for the last five years has been trying to learn it and hopes to become fluent enough to teach it to the next generation.Velazquez on the other hand, has not been heard speaking in the language with anybody.
The two men say the language used to be widely spoken in the village, but the younger generation shunned it for fear of being laughed at,and it therefore began to die a slow death,as the elders passed away.
Unless the two men get their acts together, the only way to hear the language will be to either listen to Manuel's not-so-fluent statement or see them talk in a documentary entitled “Lengua Muerta” (Dead Language) that is being filmed to capture Zoque Ayapaneco and 364 other native Mexican languages that are in a similar state.
We sure hope Segovia and Velazquez soon find something common to talk about.Maybe the fact is that the language is dying and that they should start encouraging and teaching the next generation together.[:]
32.What do we know about ZoqueAyapaneco?
A.It was widely used twelve years ago.
B.It is a Southern American language.
C.It will be popular in Mexico in the near future.
D.It will be dying out if no effective measures are taken.
33.The underlined word “shunned” in Paragraph 4 probably means “________”.
A.favored B.identified C.were reluctant to learn D.denied
34.From the passage,we can conclude that________.
A.altogether 365 languages are becoming extinct in the world.
B.Segovia and Velazquez will communicate with each other soon
C.the government cares a lot about the protection of ZoqueAyapaneco
D.we can hear the language from Manuel or documentary “ Lengua Muerta”
35.What's the main idea of the passage?
A.World's endangered languages are being filmed.
B.Villagers are trying to protect their old language.
C.An endangered language is spoken by only two people.
D.There are a lot of languages in Mexico.`

Recycling: Beyond the Dustbin
Recycling is very important and necessary in today’s world. The most important reason for this is that human progress and industry have made it possible for people to have lots of things, and when people have many material possessions, they are bound to throw some of them away. ___36___
Recycling is a way for us to keep the world clean as items are broken down and used again, preventing the littering of the environment. Instead of throwing all your garbage into the dustbin, you should separate paper, metal, glass, and plastic into different containers. ___37___ They can be turned into valuable compost(堆肥), which is the perfect plant food and soil disease fighter.
___38___ You can see if an item has been made from recycled materials by its label. If it’s been recycled, it will say so. Also instead of always buying new clothes, you can arrange to have a clothing exchange with your friends. You bring clothes you don’t want and pick items you want from what other people have brought. Not only does this save the environment, but it also saves your money. ___39___ This saying can be applied to all sorts of things: books, CDs, furniture, etc. Also try shopping at second-hand stores, because they often have lots of items still in good shape for you to choose.
Many countries have made it easy for people to recycle, as alongside the normal garbage trucks, special garbage trucks come and pick up recyclables. However, in some countries the responsibility is left up to the ordinary people to recycle. ___40___ Recycling represents just one way in which we can help the environment. But it is an effective one and one that we can actively influence.
A. Fallen leaves can also be recycled.
B. Having too many things causes a lot of garbage.
C. You should try to buy products that have been recycled.
D. Products made with recycled materials are as good as new products.
E. This creates a lot of garbage which in turn destroys the environment.
F. Remember, what is one person’s unwanted object can be someone else’s treasure!
G. Therefore, it needs attention in society so we can continue to make our environment livable.

Welcome back to the hot topic of studying abroad! Last time, we talked about the general "software" needed to have a 61 (success) studying experience overseas, 62 refers to the ability to understand western culture, and problem solving skills when 63 (face) critical situations, etc.
Now,Iwill dig deeper into the concept of "software". Everyone is talking about culture shock nowadays, but you may wonder what it actually 64(mean). Simply put: culture shock is the difficulty people may experience when being exposed and adjusting to a 65 (remarkable) different new culture. Usually, people often go 66 four distinct phases: the honeymoon phase, the negotiation phase, the adjustment phase and the mastery phase. Culture shock can happen immediately upon your 67 (arrive) in the country.
For international students, perhaps the most direct impact of culture shock is the variety of accents, especially in multicultural countries 68the U.S. Canada or Australia. There are two main reasons: Firstly, these countries have highly diversified groups of residents from different cultural 69 (background). Secondly, there are many international students from all around the world every year studying in these countries, so you shouldn't be surprised 70(find) all kinds of unfamiliar accents around the university campus.

Dear Jane,
I’m sorry to know that you are having such bad time at the moment. The truth is that everyone would have one of those periods when things seem to be going on wrong, so you don’t have to worry so much. The key is to learn to control your temper so that you may not do or say everything you regret. Here is three useful tips: First, talk to someone you trust is a good way of letting your anger out with hurting others or yourself. Second, go outdoors to do sports with my friends, although physical exercise is an effective way to get rid of anger. I hope you will soon feel calm and carry out as normal.
