Imagine being able to visit any foreign country without having to worry about the language barrier. Until recently, universal translating devices only existed in science fiction movies and TV shows. Bui companies worldwide are excitedly working to introduce universal translators.

Among them is New York-ba.sed startup Waverly Labs.

Their solution, named the Pilot, is a smart earpiece that inslantiy translates spoken language, allowing the user to have a conversation, despite not knowing the speaker's language. Waverly Labs founder and CEO, Andrew Ochoa, says he came up with the idea after being unable to talk with a French girl he liked.

The Pilot, which will appear in the spring of 2017, fits comfortably in the ear, just as an earbud( 耳塞) might. The company provides two earpieces, one for each user. When either talks, the device in their oar picks up the sound of the speech, which then goes through a smartphone app that changes it into text, translates it into a spoken form, and then “whispers” it back to the listener in his or her language. As a result, the user is able to understand the other person despite not knowing the language.

The smart device also keeps out ambient noice, allowing users to focus on the talk. When not needed for translation, the earpieces double as earbuds that can be used to listen to music. The Pilot smarlphone app can also used even for conference calls allowing participants speaking different languages to talk. Like all machine-based trannlators, the Pilot is not perfect.

Currently, the device is dependent on having a data connection and can only translate one-on-one conversations. Developers hope future generations of the Pilot will be able to translate all that is going on around a person t and work offline. They also hope to decrease the few second delays between speech and translation. The first version of the Pilot available on phones will come equipped with English, Spanish t French, Italian and Portuguese. More languages will be available during the latter half of 2017.

12.What is the third paragraph mainly about?

  A. How the Pilot works.

  B. Why Andrew invented the Pilot.

  C. Where the Pilot is used widely.

  D. When the Pilot will be available.

  13. What does the underlined word 44ambientin Paragraph 4 probably mean?

  A. Deep. B. Surrounding.

  C. Dull. D. Familiar.

  14. What do we know about the Pilot?

  A. It I ran skies several conversations at the same Time.

  B. It is equipped with some Asian languages.

  C. It only works when being online at present.

  D. It makes speech and translation go without delays.

  15. What might be the best title for the text?

Some Ways to Look at Failure Differently

When we think of failure,we usually think about how bad it is or can get.Rarely do we think of ways to look at failure differently.

  1. Failure is just feedback.

Fail 100 times, and you may look at those one hundred times as very painful moments. But how about this? Change your perspective:It was one hundred things that did not work. As a result, you now know what not to do when you try again. One view gets you nowhere. 16

  4. 19

Be grateful that you are taking progressive action towards your goal. Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal. Express gratitude (感激)because you are playing a game finding more ways that will not work, receiving feedback, and living your life fully and your passions purposefully. You have chosen to live on purpose.
