My friend Jim was a well-known radio host, who worked at a radio station all his life. All his colleagues knew him about one characteristic: If he’s on-air, he is always wearing a suit and a tie. They laughed at him, saying, “No one ever sees you. Why do you dress like that?” But he always turned that into a joke.
One day Jim was invited to appear on the TV. There was a show for the oldest radio employees. For the first time his fans, who only knew Jim by his voice, would see him. Before the recording of the show, the director came to Jim and asked, “Usually you arrive on time, but today you are 10 minutes late. It’s not terrible, but I still want to know why.”“You see,” Jim answered, “at the last moment when I was already dressed up, I noticed that I didn't have new socks. For the first time I was invited to the television, and I thought that simply wearing clean socks was not enough. So I needed to go to the store for new socks.”
The director was surprised. He asked, “Why do you need new socks? You could have come without the socks because we will be filming you only over the waist.”

We often find waste in our school. Some students ask for more food than they can eat and others often forget to turn off the lights when they leave the classroom. They say they can afford these things. But I don’t agree with them.
Waste can bring a lot of problems. Although China is rich in some resources, we are short of others, for example, fresh water. It is reported that we will have no coal or oil to use in 100 years. So if we go on wasting our resources, what can we use in the future and where can we move? Think about it. I think we should say no to the students who waste things every day. Everybody should stop wasting as soon as possible.
In our everyday life, we can do many things to prevent waste from happening, for example, turn off the water taps when we finish washing, turn off the lights when we leave the classroom, try not to order more food than we need, and so on. Little by little, everything will be changed. Waste can be stopped one day, if we do our best.

Do you often lose things? Don’t worry. Now a new tool that can be connected to any object you might lose may be the way to solve your problem. The Tile, a small square linked up to your iphone or ipad by means of Bluetooth, lets you see how close you are to your missing item, within a 50-to-150-foot range. If the item goes out of your phone’s 150-foot range, it can still be found on other smart phones with the same app.
When you drive the app on your phone, it shows you, with green bars that increase or decrease, how close or far away you are from the Tile. You can also program it to make a sound when you get close to the Tile. And you can link up your phone with up to ten Tiles. And if your lost object—a dog, for example, or a stolen bike—go out of your own phone’s 150-foot Bluetooth range, you can set it as a “lost item”. If any of the phones with the Tile app comes within range of your lost item, a message will be sent to your phone, telling you its position. The Tile app also has the function to remember where it last saw your Tile, so that you can easily find where you left it.
Since the Tiles use Bluetooth rather than GPS, they are never out of battery or needn’t to be charged, and they work for one year before needing to be replaced. And the app works with all generations of iPhones and iPads.

42. And focus means saying “no” to a lot of distractions.
Know What You Are!
Ignore your weakness and keep improving your strengths. Don’t waste time exploring skill areas where you have little ability. Instead, focus on—and build on—your strengths. 43 .
Create Good Luck!
Luck is not magical—there is a science to it. Richard Wiseman studied lucky people for his book Luck Factor, and broke down what they do right. 44 . By being more outgoing, open to new ideas, following the feeling that something is true, being optimistic, lucky people create possibilities. Wiseman created a “luck school” to test the ideas—and it was a success. In total, 80 percent of people who attended Luck School said that their luck had increased. 45 .
