Some people think that success is only for those with talent or those who grow up in the right family and others believe that success mostly comes down to luck. Fm not going to say luck, talent, and circumstances don't come into play because they do. Some people are born into the right family while others are born with great intelligence, and that's just the reality of how life is.
However, to succeed in life, one first needs to set a goal and then gradually make it more practical. And, in addition to that, in order to get really good at something, one needs to spend at least 10,000 hours studying and practicing. To become great at certain things, it'll require even more time, time that most people won't put in.
This is a big reason why many successful people advise you to do something you love. If you don't enjoy what you do, it is going to feel like unbearable pain and will likely make you quit well before you ever become good at it.

If you're hot willing to put in the time and work, don't expect to receive any rewards. If you're trying to lose weight, stress makes changes to your brain chemistry in ways that make it hard to make healthful food choices and maintain self-control, a new study finds.
Study volunteers who tolerated a somewhat stressful experience were 24 percent more likely to choose unhealthflul snacks afterward compared with volunteers who hadn't experienced stress.
And researchers think they know why brain scans showed that the stressed people had changed neurological (神經(jīng)系統(tǒng)的)connectivity between regions of the brain that process tastiness y make value judgments and plan for long-term goals.
“Being able to regulate and control your decision-making involves this complex interplay between different areas of your brain, ” said Todd Hare, the senior author of the study published in the journal Neuron. “There's not just one region or node (of the brain) that turns on and off to establish self-control; they have to all work in unison together. Stress disrupts that synchrony (同步).”
Researchers found that stress changes the way different parts of the brain communicate with one another. A simple way to think of it is like “phone line connections between the brain regions,” Hare said. “You could have a better or worse signal coming across that connection. ”
The hormone cortisol (皮質(zhì)醇)dialed up the activity from the part of the brain that processes tastiness, and strengthened connections between that area and the part of the brain that manages value judgments and decision-making. “ So you have a region shouting about taste, and it’s coming through loud and clear. Hare said.
In addition, the more stress participants felt, the weaker the connections between the part of the brain that deals with long-term planning and the part that manages value judgments and decision-making. This meant their long-term goal of improving their diet was less of a factor in decision about what to eat.
33. What may be the best title for the text?
A. The more effort the better for a weight-loser.
B. The less pressure the better for a weight-loser.
C. The less effort the better for one on a diet.
D. The more pressure the better for one on a diet.
34. Why does a stressed volunteer more likely choose junk snacks?
A. Because he has not set a long-term goal of improving his diet.
B. Because he makes it hard to make good choices and maintain self-control.
C. Because the connections between the related parts of his brain become split.
D. Because stress makes ill effects on the communications between related parts of his brain.
35. In which section of a magazine can we most possibly read the text?
A.Food. B. Medicine. C. Health. D. Lifestyle.

Reducing Test Anxiety
As students throughout the state prepare to take their tests, they will feel some added anxiety. Some of that anxiety is good, but too much can have a bad effect on test performance. Here are some methods to reduce test anxiety.
36 This is useful for two reasons; A) You'll be less nervous and B) you'll do better. A recent study at UC Berkeley showed that students who were tested on information they just learned actually did better than those who were asked to document what they were learning. 37 Then you can grade it for each other and harvest the benefits. The more real it feels, the more prepared you'll feel and be when the test day arrives.
Review that morning. 38 You want to be as calm and relaxed as possible and reviewing right before the test will do that. What's more, you'll regain the information. So on your way to class, whip out those flashcards for the last time.
Consider listening to classical music. Though it doesn't make .you smarter like some people believe,it can improve your memory. If you want to get super specific, listen to music that’s 60 BPM. 39
Do the easy questions first. An easy way to get stressed out and lose your cool is to focus on questions you don't know the answers to. 40. Don't fall into the trap move on to what you do know.
Then you can hit the hard stuff dead on.
A. Take a pre-test.
B. Ask for Help from your deskmate.
C. That’s when the benefits will be highest.
D. Stay up late and drink as much coffee as possible.
E. So write up a pre-test and have your friend do the same!
F. This is good for the exact same two reasons as stated in the previous step.
G. You start worrying about the clock and thinking about how you didn't study enough.

One Possible Version:
Dear Tom,
Thanks a lot for your invitation to your cultural exchange project. I really want to accept it and take this opportunity to introduce the traditional Chinese painting to foreign friends, but I’m sorry to tell you that I can’t. The reason is that I am occupied preparing myself for the coming College Entrance Examination.
I strongly recommended my friend Wang Wei, who is the most suitable person to take my place next week. He began to learn painting at an early age and has a good knowledge of the traditional Chinese painting, which, together with his active personality and perfect spoken English, will help make your activity a success.
Sorry again for any inconvenience caused by my absence.
Best wishes.
Yours,
Li Hua
