　　這部電影講述英國跳臺滑雪名將“飛鷹”艾迪·愛德華茲的生平事跡，被譽為英國版《阿甘正傳》，故事有笑有淚，小人物追求大夢想以及堅持不懈、努力拼搏的奧運精神極具感染力，是繼《阿甘正傳》之后又一部撼動人心的補心之作。

　　埃迪原本是高山滑雪選手，但這個項目競爭激烈，為了實現(xiàn)奧運夢他改練跳臺滑雪，遠渡重洋來到了紐約州開始用借來的裝備練習跳臺滑雪，1987年他代表英國參加世界錦標賽，排名第55位，因此獲得了一張奧運入場券。當時他體重181磅，是那屆冬奧會上該項目體重最重的選手，比第二名重了整整20磅。而且他還是遠視眼，必須一直戴眼鏡，外面再罩護目鏡，比賽的時候，眼鏡上的霧氣經常讓他幾乎看不見東西。

　　可以想見，埃迪同學的比賽成績好不了，在70米和90米的項目上，他的成績都排在最后一名。評論員善意的嘲笑他是“滑雪摔倒”選手。但是他表現(xiàn)越差，觀眾就越愛他，還得到飛鷹的外號。

　　這一屆冬奧會之后兩年，國際奧委會就通過了一項被“飛鷹規(guī)則”，規(guī)定只有在世界排名前50或者top 30%之內的運動員才有資格獲得奧運會入場券。因為這條新規(guī)定，埃迪在1992年，1994年和1998年冬奧會都落選了，但他還是相當執(zhí)著。
