What might the future be like? Here are some predictions: things to come, things to go.
The last few days of every year in big cities in China, when everyone returns home, havebeen the worst headaches for millions of Chinese. More than 2 billion people travel at the same time, making getting travel tickets and the journey difficult. But in 28 years, Spring Festival travel may not be a problem at all. China plans to build more than 120,000 kilometers of railway and a fast transportation network that will serve 90% of the population by 2020. Almost all cultures celebrate the end of one year and the beginning of another in some way.Different cultures celebrate the beginning of a new year in different ways, and at different times on the calendar.
Chinese New Year is an important traditional Chinese holiday celebrated at the turn of the Chinese calendar. It is also traditional for every family to thoroughly clean the house, in order to sweep away any ill-fortune and to make way for good incoming luck. Windows and doors will be decorated with red color paper-cuts and couplets with popular themes of “good fortune”or “happiness”, “wealth”, and “longevity”. Other activities include lighting firecrackers and giving money in red paper envelopes.
In Western countries, people usually celebrate New Year at midnight on December 31st or January 1st. People may go to parties, sometimes dressed in formalclothes like tuxedos and evening gowns, and they may drink champagne(香檳)at midnight. During the first minutes of the New Year, people cheer and wish each other happiness for the year ahead. But some cultures prefer to celebrate the New Year by waking up early to watch the sun rise.
It is also a common Western custom to make a New Year’s promise, called a resolution. New Year’s resolutions usually include promises to try something new or change a bad habit in the New Year.
Many cultures also do special things to get rid ofbad luck at the beginning of a new year. For example, in Ecuador, families make a big doll from old clothes. The doll is filled with old newspapers and firecrackers. At midnight, these dolls are burned to show the bad things from the past year are gone and the New Year can start afresh. Other common traditions to keep away bad luck in a New Year include throwing things into rivers or the ocean, or saying special things on the first day of the New Year.
Other New Year traditions are followed to bring good luck in the New Year. One widespread Spanish tradition for good luck is to eat grapes on New Year’s Day. The more grapes a person eats, the more good luck the person will have in the new coming year. In France, people eat pancakes for good luck at New Year. In the United States, some people eat black-eyed peas for good luck—but t o get good luck for a whole year you have to eat 365 of them!

Spiderman is one of the most famous comic book heroes of all time. He was created by Stan Lee in 1963 and was first introduced to the world in the pages of Marvel comic books.
Spiderman’s story is the story of Peter Parker, a child who lost his parents and lives with his aunt and uncle. Peter is a shy, quiet boy wearing glasses and has few friends. One day, on a high school class trip to a science lab, he gets bitten by a special spider. Soon Peter realizes he has amazing powers: he is as strong and quick as a spider and also has a type of sixth sense. He no longer needs his glasses and he can use his super power to fly through the city streets! Remembering something his Uncle Ben has told him, that “with great power, there must also come great responsibility (責(zé)任),” Peter decides to use his powers to fight enemies who do cruel things to people. And so, Spiderman is born.
Life is not easy for Peter even though he is a superhero. He is in love with Mary Jane but cannot tell her about his amazing powers. Besides, his best friend Harry hates Spiderman! Peter is also short of money and time. He has to sell photos of Spiderman (himself!) to a newspaper and he keeps losing his other jobs because he’s so busy saving people! I’ve been home alone for several times and my first stay at home alone was memorable.
When I was twelve, once both of my parents were away on business, and I had been all by myself for two days. They left early the first day, and I got up soon after they left. In the first evening I was a little scared, so I turned on all the lights. I actually kept the light on in my bedroom the whole night. For fear of getting up late the next morning, I put three alarm clocks near my bed. In order to prove that I could take care of myself, I washed my own clothes the second afternoon, though I could wait for mom to do it.
I really felt proud of myself and thought I was a big girl.
參考例文2:
Up to now I’ve never had a chance to be at home alone. But if there’s one in the future, I guess Iwill take care of myself very easily. The reasons are as follows.
First of all, I keep a good daily routine. That’s to say, I can get up and go to bed at usual time by myself. And I can cook simple food. The most important reason is thatI can balance my study and entertainment.
Therefore, my parents won’t worry about me if they have to stay away for a few days.

W: What’re those photos for, Peter?
M: I want to join the School Photo Competition this year. Can you help me choose the best one for this competition?
W: You need to decide on a good topic. The Summer Palace is very nice in this photo. The night of Beihai Park is great… Wow, I like this one. It shows the great fun of staying with good friends. What do you think?
M: It’s good. But I like the one about Beihai Park best.
W: What about asking our art teacher, Miss Wu? She’s got a good eye on photos.
M: That’s a good idea. Thank you, Lily.

Our teacher, Mrs. Green has a friend, who runs an old people’s home. It is called Love and Care. He asked Mrs. Green if some of her students would go and visit the old people. Some of the old people do not have visitors, and they get lonely. Mrs. Green told us about it. And we had a discussion. Several of my classmates and I volunteered to go after school. Mrs. Green said it would be nice if we could give some performances to the old people. They do not often have the chance to watch performances. Mainly they watch TV . We decided to sing some old songs to them. We asked Mrs. Green to play the piano for us. We practiced twice before we went there.
At Love and Care, we talked to the old people while having tea and cake with them. Some of them couldn’t walk easily. An old man kept for a sleep and woke up suddenly. One of the old women was talking to herself all the time. Then we sat with the old people. They really liked the songs. Some of them even joined in the singing. They got really excited.
It was good to see the old people so happy. We will visit them again.

W: Hi, Harry!
M: Hi, Jane!
W: How’s your homework?
M: It’s a bit hard. You know what I’m waiting for right now?
W: No. What?
M: A robot that can do all my homework, then I won’t mind going to school.
W: Yes. I’m sure we’ll be able to buy one in the supermarket one day.
M: Well, I’ll be the first to rush to the supermarket for it.
W: You don’t need to. Maybe we’ll do all the shopping on the Internet.
M: That’s right. Shopping on the Internet could save us a lot of time.
W: By the way, do you think we’ll still need a car then?
M: Of course, but I think we’ll buy an electric car.
W: Why an electric one?
M: Because it doesn’t pollute the air, and it’s safe. And I think w e’ll use new ways to produce electricity in 20 years’ time. You know, using energy from the sun and the wind.
W: Maybe we’ll have wings controlled by the computer. And we can go anywhere we like without traffic jams.
M: And we can even travel to the moon or other planets.
W: How exciting!
