A French billionaire had a rough time when he was young. Later he carved out a career for himself in the field of drawing sales. Within ten years, he had become a young media tycoon (大亨) in France. He died of cancer in 1998.
A French newspaper published his will after his death, in which he claimed, “I was a poor guy. Before I reach the threshold (門檻) of heaven, I leave my secret of how to become rich to the world. Anyone who can answer the question ‘What is the scarcest (最缺乏的) for the poor?’ will have discovered my secret of becoming rich. He will have my congratulations. My deposit of one million francs in the private safe of my bank will be the prize for his wisdom in uncovering the riddle of poverty.”
Many people responded to the publicized will. The answers, as one might imagine, were various. The majority of them thought the scarcest for the poor was money. Some stated that what the poor most needed was opportunity. Still others thought that the poor needed skills to make money. The rest of the answers claimed that poverty could be attributed to the absence of help, love, attractiveness, and even a presidency of a state.
On the first anniversary of the billionaire's passing, his lawyer and representative opened his private safe in the bank; the secret of getting rich was unfolded. The billionaire believed that the scarcest for the poor was the ambition of getting rich.
It was a nineyearold girl who hit_the_nail_on_the_head. Why did she regard “ambition” as the scarcest for the poor? The day she was officially awarded the one million francs, she said, “Every time my elder sister brought her boyfriend home, she always warned me not to be ambitious. Not to be ambitious! So, I thought perhaps ambition was something that brought what you wanted.”

A new World Ba nk report warns that children who do not get enough good food in the first two years of life suffer lasting damage. They may be under developed or under weight. They may suffer from poor health or poor intelligence. In addition, these children are more likely to drop out of school and earn less money as adults.
At the same time, it notes that too little food is not the only cause of poor nutrition (營養(yǎng)). Many children may suffer for other reasons. For example, the study says that mothers often fail to give their newly born babies their first breast mil k. This “milk” is called colostrum (初乳). It can improve a baby's ability to fight infections (傳染病) and disease.
The study also links malnutrition (營養(yǎng)不良) to economic growth in poor countries. A lack of nutrition in early childhood can cost developing nations up to three percent of their yearly earnings. The study suggests that poor countries could possibly double their economic growth if they improved nutrition.
Africa and South Asia are affected the most by poor nutrition. The study says about half of all children in India do not get enough good food. The World Bank study also notes that rates of malnutrition in South Asia are almost double those in central and southern Africa. Other parts of the world are also seriously affected, including Indonesia, Guatemala and Peru.
The study advises that developing countries change their policies to deal with malnutrition. Instead of directly providing food, the study suggests educational programs in health and nutrition for mothers with young babies. It also advises cleaner living conditions and improvements in health care.

B. Yearly earnings have something to do with poor nutrition.

范文
It is important to take regular exercise
As students, we spend most of our time studying in classrooms. That is why it is important to take regular exercise.
Taking regular exercise offers us some benefits. First of all, it enables us to stretch our body after sitting too long. A study said that in China students keep sitting for more than six hours every day. It's terrible! Second, we feel more relaxed because we are focusing on the exercise we are doing instead of our lessons. Also, we can learn to cooperate with others if we play in a team.
There are many ways for us students to exercise. Personally, I like running in the playground after school. And I also enjoy playing table tennis with my friends at weekends.
Let's take regular exercise. It's true that if we don't use our body, we will lose it!
