和老外交流時(shí),經(jīng)常被老外問(wèn): How are you? 或者How are you feeling now?聽(tīng)到這,腦子就卡機(jī)了,機(jī)械地冒出一句:I'm fine,或者 I am good.
Pumped Up
very excited about something.
Eg: He’s pumped up for his first half-marathon race this weekend.
Fool's Paradise
a situation when someone is happy because they’re ignoring a problem or fail to realize its existence.
Eg: He’s been living in fool’s paradise since he started trading stocks, expecting to make millions even though he doesn’t have investing experience.
On Cloud Nine
When someone is on cloud nine, it means that he or she is feeling extremely happy.
Eg: When he finally proposed to her, she was on cloud nine.
Be down in the dumps
to feel unhappy or without hope.
Eg: I always feel down in the dumps when I go back to work after a long weekend.
At the end of your rope/ tether
to feel very upset because you’re no longer able to deal with a difficult situation.
美國(guó)人說(shuō)的是 at the end of your rope;而英國(guó)人說(shuō) at the end of your tether。
Eg: Helen is at the end of her rope after looking for a job for months without any luck.
Grief-stricken
extremely sad
Eg: After his partner died in a car accident, he was left grief-stricken.
Bend out of shape
When you are bent out of shape over something, you feel very annoyed or angry.
Eg: Mother is really bent out of shape because we came home so late last night.
Bite someone's head off
to respond with anger to someone
Eg: I just asked one question to confirm his request, and my boss bit my head off.
Drive up the wall
to annoy or irritate someone.
Eg: His constant whining drove me up the wall, so I left.
Have butterflies in your stomach
to feel very nervous or excited about something that you have to do, especially something important.
Eg: I’m going to have the first meeting with a big client tomorrow, and I’m feeling butterflies in my stomach.
Afraid of your own shadow
very easily frightened
Afraid of your own shadow,一個(gè)人連自己影子都害怕顯然要比害怕杯弓蛇影,顯然是更極端的害怕了。
Eg: After reading “Dracula,” she became afraid of her own shadow.
On pins and needles
When people say they’re on pins and needles, they aren’t talking about sewing or injections. It really means that they are feeling anxious or nervous.
Eg: The movie was so suspenseful, I was on pins and needlesthe whole time!
Spaced out
When you are not concentrating on what is going on around you, you can say you are spaced out or daydreaming.
Eg: Dave, are you listening? You look totally spaced out!
Feel out of it
to not feel in a state of one’s normal mind.
Eg:He just woke up from a night of heavy drinking and felt so out of it.
Beat/Bushed
The next time someone asks you how you’re feeling after a long and tiring day, you can tell them that you’re beat or bushed.
Eg: Sorry, I can’t do the chores today, I’m beat/bushed!
