　　1968年年末，披頭士放棄了現(xiàn)場(chǎng)表演兩年多后，保羅·麥卡特尼渴望樂(lè)隊(duì)重返舞臺(tái)表演。當(dāng)年的《White Album》錄音環(huán)節(jié)已經(jīng)看到隊(duì)員間一些嚴(yán)重的爭(zhēng)論，和續(xù)漸催向緊張的關(guān)系。麥卡特尼認(rèn)為樂(lè)隊(duì)因?yàn)槎嗄隂](méi)有作現(xiàn)場(chǎng)演奏，已失去凝聚力。這時(shí)麥卡特尼想起來(lái)母親曾說(shuō)過(guò)的一句話：“讓一切都隨其自然”，于是麥卡特尼開(kāi)始構(gòu)思這首歌曲。麥卡特尼母親的名字叫瑪麗，所以他用圣經(jīng)中耶穌的母親瑪利亞來(lái)代指自己的母親，于是誕生了“Mother Mary comes to me”這句歌詞[6-7] 。

　　1969年1月3日，披頭士為了拍攝紀(jì)錄片《順其自然》，在特威克南電影制作室首次演唱了該首歌曲，該版本中只有保羅·麥卡特尼的鋼琴聲和歌聲。同月31日，披頭士在Apple工作室錄制了正式版本 。
