About Chinese and Western Education
Chinese education have been criticized all the time. During the last decades, more and more families chose to send their children to study abroad if they have enough money. There is no doubt that foreign education have many advantages, while the good sides of our education are always ignored.
Recently, I read an article about a girl who studied abroad during high school period. She made this choice because she believed that foreign education must be easy. When she got there, she found it was so hard to get used to the teaching method. Her math was her advantage subject, while the humanities frustrated her. The girl's father mentored her to read all kinds of historical materials and she spent a lot of time to study. Finally, every teacher spoke highly of this girl.
Many readers perceive the advantages of western education from this story, but the fact is that Chinese education lays the foundation of her foreign education. Her ability to write and her wisdom in math owing to home study. So both home study and foreign education have good sides.
清明節(jié) The Tomb Sweeping Day
The tomb sweeping day is one of the traditional festivals in China. On April 5th, people start to visit their ancestors' tombs. Generally speaking, people will bring the home-made food, some fake money and paper-made mansion to their ancestors. When they start to honour their ancestor, they will light up some candles and incense, put some flowers around the tombs. The most important thing is to put the home-made food in front of the tombs. The food, also known as sacrifices, is usually made up with a chicken, a fish and some pork. It's a symbol of the offspring's respect to the ancestors. People believe that the forbears will share the food with them. The children dedicate the food and money to their forbears in order to show their love and caring. The young offspring will go down on their knees and pray for their ancestors. They can say their wishes in front of the tombs and the ancestors will make their dreams come true.
In some provinces of China, people use different activities to commemorate this day, for instance, spring-outing, swinging, tree planting and making special food. One special food is Ay Tsao rice balls. It looks like Tang-yuan, but its colour is green. Mix the ay tsao juice with the rice powder, then make it into small balls. The Ay Tsao rice ball is done. People believe that eating ay tsao rice balls can get rid of the bad luck and everything will go smoothly. Other activities such as spring outing, tree planting are the other ways to commemorate the forbears. For one thing, it is a sign that people should look into the future and embrace the hope; for another thing, we do hope our ancestor rest in peace.
No one in China has failed to notice that goods are wrapped(包裝)in flaring (華美的,花哨的)boxes or bags. Taking a look around,we can find examples with ease:a small computer is packed in a thick and heavy(又厚又重)carton, clothes are putted in a well-designed plastic bags(塑料袋)which printed various kinds of patterns and colors and so on.
What are the causes of this problem? On the one hand, in order to earn more economic gains(經(jīng)濟收益), a considerable number of (很多)manufactures usually wrap their products with unnecessary but appealing (吸引人的)materials aiming at attracting customer's attention , arousing their curiosity and then stimulating their purchasing desire (吸引顧客的注意力并引發(fā)他們的好奇心). On the other hand, quite a few customers believe that the more delicate the package seems, the superior the quality will be(包裝越精美,產(chǎn)品質(zhì)量就越好),the notion has also encouraged the trend of excessive packaging. However, the emergence of excessive package(過度包裝) has given rise to(導(dǎo)致)many undesirable consequences that can't be neglected (不容忽視). For one thing,it is a waste of precious and limited natural resources, which will thus pose underlying (潛在的) threat to our offspring generation(子孫后代). For another, customers are often deceived by artificial external packing rather than being provided with high-quality goods .
To change this situation, I think we should take the following measures. First, laws must be made and implemented to impose restriction on (實行限制) excessive packaging. Second, a public education campaign should be launched to arouse customers' consciousness (意識) that packaging doesn't equal to quality, and also let them know the bad impact of it. Only in this way can we put an end to this trend (結(jié)束這種趨勢).
