經(jīng)典英語(yǔ)美文篇1
Keep the candle lighted
A man had a little daughter—an only and much-loved child. He lived for her—she was his life. So when she became ill, he became like a man possessed, moving heaven and earth(竭盡全力) to bring about her restoration to health.
His best efforts, however, proved unavailing(無(wú)效的,徒勞的) and the child died. The father became a bitter recluse(隱士) , shutting himself away from his many friends and refusing every activity that might restore his poise and bring him back to his normal self. But one night he had a dream.
He was in heaven, witnessing a grand(宏偉的) pageant(盛會(huì),游行) of all the little child angels. They were marching in a line passing by the Great White Throne. Every white-robed angelic child carried a candle. He noticed that one child’s candle was not lighted. Then he saw that the child with the dark candle was his own little girl. Rushing to her, he seized her in his arms, caressed her tenderly, and then asked, “How is it, darling, that your candle alone is unlighted?” “Daddy, they often relight it, but your tears always put it out.”
Just then he awoke from his dream. The lesson was crystal clear(極其明白) , and its effects were immediate. From that hour on he was not a recluse, but mingled(融合) freely and cheerfully with his former friends and associates. No longer would his darling’s candle be extinguished by his useless tears.
經(jīng)典英語(yǔ)美文篇2
I have a choice
I woke up early today, excited over all I get to do before the clock strikes midnight. I have responsibilities to fulfill today. I am important.
My job is to choose what kind of day I am going to have.
Today I can complain because the weather is rainy or I can be thankful that the grass is getting watered for free.
Today I can feel sad that I don’t have more money or I can be glad that my finances encourage me to plan my purchases wisely and guide me away from waste.
Today I can grumble about(發(fā)牢騷,抱怨) my health or I can rejoice that I am alive.
Today I can lament over(哀悼,悲痛) all that my parents didn’t give me when I was growing up or I can feel grateful that they allowed me to be born.
Today I can cry because roses have thorns or I can celebrate that thorns have roses.
Today I can mourn my lack of friends or I can excitedly embark upon(從事,著手) a quest to discover new relationships.
Today I can whine(抱怨,牢騷) because I have to go to work or I can shout for joy because I have a job to do.
Today I can murmur dejectedly(沮喪地) because I have to do housework or I can feel honored because the Lord has provided shelter for my mind, body and soul.
Today stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped. And here I am, the sculptor who gets to do the shaping.
What today will be like is up to me. I get to choose what kind of day I will have!
經(jīng)典英語(yǔ)美文篇3
All I Want Is To Love You Forever
All I want is to love you for the rest of my life...
to wake up every morning with you by my side,
knowing that no matter what happens,
I'll be able to come home to your loving arms.
All I want is to share everything with you...
to talk to you about your ideas, our dreams,
the little everyday things, that make us laugh,
and the not-so-little things that we can't help worrying about.
All I want is to give you my love...
as a place you can always come to for acceptance
or the simple comfort that silence brings,
when things left unspoken can still be understood.
All I want is to grow old with you...
to watch our life unfold,
our dreams, one by one, come true.
All I want is to love you forever!
