Spring is a time for new life. Flowers begin to bloom盛開(kāi) after the long winter. Birds begin to build nests to lay their eggs in. In forests and fields many animals have babies this time of year. Days begin to get longer and the sun gets warmer. People begin to enjoy the outdoors and all the beautiful weather of spring.

The most important holiday in spring especially for Christians_ is Easter. This Christian holiday is not on the same date every year but it’s always on a Sunday. It can be any Sunday between March 22 and April 25. Many people celebrate Easter by buying new clothes. Children celebrate by hunting for colored eggs that their parents have hidden around the house. People also give Easter baskets filled with candy and other goodies 糕餅糖果 to one another to celebrate the day.

But the holiday is more than new clothes and good things to eat. On Easter many people go to the church to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection復(fù)活 from the dead. The Bible tells about Jesus and his death and resurrection. Jesus died because of people’s sins罪. But he rose again and gave forgiveness and new life to everyone who believes in him. Isn’t that something to celebrate in spring.

Most people color them. Some people hide them. Others just eat them. But no matter what one does with Easter eggs they are an important Easter tradition throughout the Western world.

From Honolulu to Helsinki people from many different cultures celebrate Easter. In both America and Belgium children look for Easter eggs hidden on lawns and in bushes. In America children believe the eggs are hidden by the Easter bunny復(fù)活節(jié)兔子. But in Belgium the hidden eggs are supposed to have fallen from church bells.

In Bulgaria red Easter eggs are blessed 幸運(yùn)的 in churches Bulgarian families also hit these Easter eggs together to see whose has the strongest shell殼. The winner looks forward to good fortune運(yùn)氣 that year.

Still dozens of other Easter traditions exist. In parts of Austria for example children sing from door to door and are rewarded with colorful eggs.

This year Easter falls on April 12. On this day whatever tradition people follow they’re sure to have an exciting time.

The first of April is commonly known as April Fools’ Day, and it is customarily on this day to play a trick on a friend. If your friend falls into the trap, then he or she is an April Fool. It isn’t only children that like such jokes. Grownups like such pranks, too.

Even the media occasionally try to deceive the public with a clever April Fool story. Some years ago, for example, a famous joke was played on the radio. A scientific correspondent reported that strange geological changes had resulted in weaker gravity in different parts of Britain. He asked listeners to jump up and down and see if they could jump higher than they normally could. Many people did. The hundreds of calls the BBC received proved how successful the hoax was. Not until twelve o’clock did the BBC gently remind its listeners it was April Fools’ Day that day.

Making jokes only lasts until the noon of the day, the rule is rigid and everywhere acknowledged. Anyone who tries to make a fool after midday is a bigger fool than he who has been fooled. The late trickster is instantly rebuffed.as a piece of poem goes:

April Fools gone and past .

you're the biggest fool at last.

when April Fool's Day comes again.

you'll be the biggest fool then.
