Newsweek, the venerable weekly publication that will be remembered for its decades-long
efforts
for a spot on consumers’ coffee tables, has shut down its print edition at the end of 2012, but it lives on
in a new digital tablet edition known as Newsweek Global. As Tina Brown, the Newsweek editor, said,
this tablet edition will target a “new highly mobile, opinion-leading audience who want to learn about
world events in a sophisticated context.”
The move should not shock. The publication has faced major financial problems in recent years. The numbers tell the tale: Newsweek’s circulation has fallen in the number of subscribers from 3 million to 1.5 million in the last decade; annual losses were thought to be million. More broadly,
the company faces a more existential problem in that a “weekly news” magazine has become an anachronism in the digital world.
Newsweek is not the only one that has to tackle the challenge in the digital time; other outlets will continue to change their business models for a digital future. With the “imminent death” of print,
digital formats come out as an inevitable development that could turn the industry’s fortune around.

Read the story starter and continue the story. Complete the story in 600-800 words.
The little man came up to me as I was about to enter the telephone box, and asked me whether I had a match.
“I’m sorry,” I said. “I don’t smoke, so I haven’t any. You had better ask someone else.”
He looked rather disappointed, hesitated, and then turned away. I watched him walk slowly down the street before I picked up the telephone directory to look up the number I meant to dial. I am not used to a public call box so, at my first attempt to get through, the warning pips had stopped before I realized I had to insert a coin.
When I was at last able to speak, I was told that the person whom I urgently wanted to give a message to had just that minute gone out.
Swearing slightly under my breath, I emerged from the box and came face to face with the little man, who was looking as pathetic as a stray dog. As he raised his hat again, I could see he was quite
bald. A thin line, resembling a duelling scar, crossed one cheek. He spoke nervously.
“Excuse my troubling you again,” he said. “May I walk along with you a little way? I must confide in someone. I need help desperately.”

Never Will Tablets Replace the Printed Books
As we set foot in the digital age, tablets have been applied in education, competing with the printed books. Some people may herald tablets as a better teaching method, but personally,I am firmly convinced that tablets will never replace the printed books.
Living in the modern society which has been being rocked by evolution,it’s inevitable that we will become more and more reliable on digital devices.Nevertheless, when it comes to tablets,I won’t subscribe to their taking the place of printed books.Indeed, tablets possess some merits but drawbacks too. Some people may defend that there is much more information stored here and how convenient they are!Nowadays,we are confronted with much more competition and shouldering even more burdens.Provided that we long to taste the final triumph,we are bound to immerse ourselves fully in those which will contribute to our success.Hence, convenience is a supreme priority for us and luckily tablets can make it when we acquire knowledge.
However,I want to ask a question,“Have you ever considered its shortcomings?”When making a decisive option,we are supposed to balance its strengths as well as its weakness and then we can make a decision out of sensible consideration.Tablets do provide us with great convenience whereas they are more than costly simultaneously. It’s reported that only two tablets can cost 8 which is the average
expenditure for textbooks and supplies in a school. Therefore, there is no doubt that the cost of the publicity of tablets will be an enormous sum!Now that printed books are much cheaper compared with tablets, why don’t we choose the former ones when acquiring knowledge?
What’s more, printed books are the traditional ways we acquire knowledge, which have been succeeded successfully by we Chinese descendants for thousands of decades.Though they are not as convenient as tablets, they owe their unique advantages.First and foremost, reading printed books makes it possible for us to mark those highlights which are impressive or meaningful to us.With them, there is no necessity for us to be bothered by where to take notes. Moreover, required to take all kinds of examinations,we can review the pivotal points easily with printed books, which is of great assistance for us to snap out of the anxiety about exams .Last but not least,we can relish the solitude and quiet with a printed book under the sunshine, which is a perfect way to get away from the noise of cities and to empty our negative moods.Emptying negative moods can make us study and work more efficiently, thus printed books play an indispensable part in our life. It’s apparent that tablets can’t work as this role, which is another advantage of printed books over tablets.
In a nutshell, never will tablets replace the printed books! While tablets
furnish us with great convenience, they are too costly.Compared with tablets, printed books are much cheaper.Furthermore,it is printed books that make it possible for us to mark those pivotal points;it is printed books that make it convenient for us to review for various exams;it is printed books that supply precious breaks for us to relish the solitude which only belongs to us.Ultimately,I want to emphasize again that I am deeply convinced that tablets will never replace printed books.
The Splendid Chinese Moon Festival
On 15th August according to the lunar calendar in China,it’s the traditional Moon festival, which has been being commemorated for thousands of years. It prevails all across China, from big cities to small villages.Surprisingly,it has been favored by more and more foreigners in recent years.
It’s said that the Moon festival derived in China from long time ago.In ancient times, the officials started to observe it luxuriously. Then,it prevails among the people gradually.A story goes like that all kinds of crops and fruits ripe gradually till 15th August. In order to celebrate the gratifying harvest and express their happiness, people chose this day as a festival, which,of course,is the origin of it.What’s more,Moon festival is also famous for being named Mid-autumn Day in that 15th is a middle day of August and August is a middle month of autumn.
Compared with other Chinese traditional festivals, there is no doubt that Moon festival is unique for its specialties. The symbol of Spring festival is fireworks and red couplets;the Dragon festival is famous for dragon boating and Zongzi;Moon festival is characterized by eating moon cakes and experiencing the festival in a different atmosphere.
People are able to play and entertain in a very indelible atmosphere when the festival approaching. To begin with, nothing is more exhilarating than to have a scarce vacation after working nonstop for so long a time.Nowadays,so much pressure we are under that we don’t have access to some time for relaxing. Therefore, the vacation to us is what water to a drying plant;it’s a pleasant bonus! In addition,it spares us sometime to pay a visit to some old friends and relatives,it’s a precious opportunity to cement our relationships. On the way,we even can relish the alluring scenery neglected by us in the past, which is a good way to get close to nature, relaxing from the working pressure.Having worked to extremely fatigued, surprisingly you’ll find what a beautiful world you are in and then you will become optimistic about the world, without any complaints! Moreover, when visiting friends and the old, taking packs of moon cakes signifies your respects to them.Last but not least,it’s a tradition to get together with family members to have a union dinner, share the palatable moon cakes and enjoy the beautiful moon light.Having been occupied with work for so long,it’s high time that we
should cherish the gold chance to accompany our family members who have been ignored by us before.Hence,we can draw the conclusion easily that it’s really one of the Chinese splendid festivals.
To sum up,it’s apparent that Moon festival is an alluring festival. As long as you experience it once, you’ll fall in love with it undoubtedly.Today,I’m here recommending you to experience it in person, which is the very way to demonstrate whether I am making up a story. Now,are you still confused? Are you curious about it?If so,experience it in person.I promise that you will never regret for it!Come on!
