一
A: What did you think of the movie?
B: At first I thought it was great. It started out really interesting, but it just dragged on and on, with no real purpose or meaning. I thought it would never end.

start out: 開始時(shí)。

purpose: 意圖。

A: How was your trip to Las Vegas?
B: We had a great time going to shows and gambling all night. It’s hard to come home; Kansas City seems pretty tame by comparison.

2
A: I’ve been waiting all my life to study with Dr. Newton.
B: Well, you’re going to be disappointed to find that although his books are interesting, his lectures are quite tedious. He talks in a monotone, repeats himself, and usually ends class a half-hour late.
