關(guān)于三年級英語故事短文:The Man,his Son and their Donkey
A man and his son were driving their donkey along a country road. They saw some girls drawing water at a well.
One of the girls said, "oh, look! How silly they are! A man and a boy are walking along beside their donkey, and nobody is riding it." The man heard this and said to his son, "You had better ride our donkey. You are light, so you will not tire our donkey."
In a little while they met three old men. One of them said, "See here! The boy is riding a donkey and his old father is walking by his side. The young boy does of take care of his old father." And the man got on the donkey and his son walked along beside it. Now they were very happy.
But soon afterward they met three women. Fastened it to a pole. They lifted it to their shoulders and carried it along to the town. When they came to a bridge, everyone laughed at them.
And the donkey did not like the noise and began to kick. It broke the rope, fell into the water and was drowned. So the old man had to take his son and go home. The man said to his son, "He who tries to please everybody pleases nobody after all."
關(guān)于三年級英語故事短文:The overconfident mantis
A certain mantis grew extraordinarily stout(結(jié)實(shí)的) and robust. When he walked around in the backyard, brandishing(揮舞) his two powerful forelimbs. He could easily catch some smaller insects such as locusts, crickets, bugs, etc. Since he was stronger and caught more smaller insects than other mantises and caught more smaller insects than other mantises, he felt that he should be the leader of his kingdom.
His authority was one day challenged by another also very strong mantis. After a bitter fighting, he defeated his challenger, who fled toward a road outside of the backyard and swiftly disappeared. The victor chased on the road, but he could not find the loser. He vented his anger on the smaller insects, continually killed two locusts and three crickets. And all the other smaller insects were scared and immediately escaped tracklessly.
The bloodthirsty mantis stood bravely on the road by himself. The joy of victory intoxicated(沉醉,中毒) him into thinking that he might be the most indomitable creature in the world. Soon, he heard a strange sound from a distance. It was a one-wheel wooden cart pushed by a man coming toward his direction on the way.
The mantis had never seen a wooden cart. He stood on the road brandishing his two powerful large saws without retreat. He really believed that he could frighten away the unknown monster as he had defeated his challenger.
In another minute, the wheel of wooden cart rolled over the poor, self important, ignorant mantis, crushing his without the cart drive's even knowing.
In our society, there are many 'mantises'. They think they are more superior than others. They over-estimate their own ability, because they have never seen a "wooden cart."
A Chinese proverb says, "If you think you are the strongest, there is always somebody who is stronger than you; if you think your world is the largest, there is always another world which is larger than yours."
關(guān)于三年級英語故事短文:The Lazy Donkey
A man bought a Donkey at the market one day and took him home on approval.
Now the man owned several Donkeys already and he knew each one's character very well.
One of the Donkey was very strong and brave. Another was eager to please but quickly exhausted.
One Donkey was very lazy. He hated going to work in the morning and he did as little as he possibly could all day long. When the other animals were being loaded up he always tried to be the last so that he would get the lightest load.
The man led the new Donkey into the stable yard. For a moment he stood sniffing at his new companions. Then, without hesitation, he trotted up to the lazy Donkey and began feeding comfortably at his side.
Though it was late in the day, the man immediately led the new Donkey out of the yard, straight back to the market.
"You cannot have given him a fair trial yet," said the merchant. "It is only ten minutes since you bought him."
"I don't need to try him any more," replied the man. "I know just what he is like from the friend he chose for himself.
Take him away and give me my money back. I can do without Donkeys like him."
