Rising Moon
There is a hill near my home that I often climb at night.
The noise of the city is a far-off whisper when I climb it. In the dark I share the cheerfulness of crickets and the leisure of owls. duanwenw.com But what I come to see is the wonder of the moon rise. It gives me peacefulness and simplicity4 that the city exhausts too easily.
From this hill I have watched many moons rise. Each one had its own mood. There have been broad and beautiful moons in autumn; shy and misty moons in spring; lonely and white winter moons rising into the absolute silence of an ink- black sky and orange moons over the dry fields of summer. Each, like fine music, excited my heart and calmed my soul.
We, who live indoors, have lost contact with the moon. The rays of street lights and the dust of pollution cover the night sky. Though man has walked on the moon, in a way it is less familiar. Few of us can say what time the moon will rise tonight.
Still, it resonates with us. If we unexpectedly come across the full moon, huge and yellow over the horizon, we can’t help staring back at its beautiful appearance, duanwenw.com and the moon has gifts to those who watch it.
By enjoying the bright moon, we can melt6 into the quiet of the night.
