Education in china today has been developing rapidly. In many provinces, it is compulsory and free. Most children start school at the age of six. They attend five years of elementary school and six years of high school. After graduation from high school, a student can start his higher education in a two-year college, a four-year college, a university or specialized professional school. Most colleges admit students on the basis of their entrance examination records. The cost of college education is not very high and the great part of it is met by their families. Those students can get support from their college. Many students receive scholarships from the school, the government or private foundations and organizations. The great progress has been made in China in the field of education. There is still a comparatively large part of population in the country who cannot read and write.

Dreams
Dreams are a product of the sleeper's mind. They include events and feelings that he has experienced. Most dreams are related to events of the day before the dream and strong wishes of the dreamer. Many minor incidents of the hours before sleep appear in dreams. Few events more than two days old turn up. Deep wishes or fears - especially those held since childhood- often appear in dreams, and many dreams fulfil such wishes. Events in the sleeper's surrounding- a loud noise, for example, may become part of a dream, but they do not cause dreams.
Some dreams involve deep feelings that a person may not realize he has. Psychiatrists(精神病醫(yī)生)often use material from a patient's dreams to help the person understand himself better.
Dreaming may help maintain good learning ability, memory, and emotional adjustment.( People who get plenty of sleep-but are awakened each time they begin to dream- become anxious and restless.)

M: So, what's the next thing on the agenda, Mary?
W: Well, it's the South Theater Company. They want to know if we'd be interested insponsoring a tour they want to make to East Asia.
M: East Asia? Uh... and how much are they hoping to get from us?
W: Well, the letter mentions 20,000 pounds, but I don't know if they might settle for less.
M: Do they say what they would cover? Have they anything specific in mind?
W: No, I think they are just asking all the firms in town for as much money as they think they'llgive.
M: And we are worth 20,000 pounds, right?
W: It seems so.
M: Very flattering. But I am not awfully happy with the idea. What do we get out of it?
W: Oh, good publicity I suppose. So what I suggest is not that we just give them a sum ofmoney, but that we offer to pay for something specific like travel or something, and that inreturn, we ask for our name to be printed prominently in the program, and that they give usfree advertising space in it.
M: But the travel bill would be enormous, and we could never manage that.
W: I know. But why don't we offer to pay for the printing of the programs ourselves oncondition that on the front cover there's something like "This program is presented with thecompliments of Norland Electronics", and free advertising of course.
M: Good idea. Well, let's get back to them and ask what the program they want will cost. Thenwe can see if we are interested or not.
