The dog
Anon
I’ve never known a dog to wag
His tail in glee he did not feel,
Nor quit his old-time friend to tag
At sime more influential heel.
The yellowest cur I ever knew
Was to the boy who loved him true.
I’ve never known a dog to show
Half-way devotion to his friend;
To seek a kinder man to know,
Or richer; but unto the end
The humblest dog I ever knew
Was to the man that loved him true.
I’ve never known a dog to fake
Affection for a present gain,
A false display of love to make
Some little favor to attain.
I’ve never known a Prince or Spot
That seemsd to be what he was not
I’ve never known a dog to bear
Starvation’s pargs from day to day.
With him who had been glad to share
His bread ard meat along the way.
No dog, however mean or rude.
Is guilty of ingratitude.
去尋找更善良或更富裕的闊佬;

The Dove J. Keats
I had a dove, and the sweet dove died;
And I hve thought it died of grieving;
O, what could it grieve for? Its feet were tied
With a silken thread of my own hand’s weaving;
Sweet little red feet! Why should you die—
Why would you leave me, sweet bird! Why?
You lieved alone in the forest tree,
Why, pretty thing! Would you not live with me?
I kissed you oft and gave you white peas;
Why not live sweerly, as in the green trees?
我有一只鴿,而這可愛的鴿子死了;
我以為它因悲傷而死亡;
是用我親手織成的絲線所縛拴;
我曾經(jīng)常吻你并喂你白豌豆;

A Noiseless Patient Spider
W. Whitman
A noiseless patient spider,
I mark’d where on a little promontory it stood isolated,
Mark’d how to explore the vacant vast surrounding,
It launch’d forth filament, filament, filament, out of itself,
Ever unreeling them, ever tirelessly speeding them.

And you O my soul where you stand,
Surrounded, detached, in measureless oceans of space,
Ceaselessly musing, venturing, throwing, seeking the spheres to connect them,
Till the bridge you will need be form’d, till the ductile anchor hold,
Till the gossamer thread you fling catch somewhere, O my soul.
