Better Be a Stupid Man.
It was a beautiful spring morning. There wasn't a cloud in the sky, and the sun was warm but not too hot. So Mr. Andrews was surprised when saw an old gentleman at the bus-stop with a big, strong black umbrella in his hand.
Mr. Andrews said to him, "Are we going to have rain today, do you think?"
"No," said the old gentleman, "I don't think so."
"Then are you carrying the umbrella to keep the sun off you?"
"No, the sun is not very hot in spring."
Mr. Andrews looked at the big umbrella again, and the gentleman said, "I am an old man, and my legs are not very strong, so I really need a walking stick. But when I carry a walking stick, people say, 'Look at that poor old man', and I don't like that. When I carry an umbrella in fine weather, people only say, 'Look at that stupid man'."
常用口語:
1. What a mess! 真是一團(tuán)糟!
2. walk across...穿過,橫穿

你認(rèn)為你所在城市的交通怎么樣?你是如何處理交通擁堵的?
How do you think of the traffic in the city you live? How to deal with the traffic jams in the city?
I don’t think the traffic condition is bad in Haikou expect when it is during the rush hour. Most of roads that are large enough and relatively fewer vehicles than those in other large cities offer citizens a much comfortable traffic condition. But when it rains, all is in mess. For the road will be full of water and serious traffic jams even traffic accidents will be caused.
As for the traffic jams in the city, there are fours ways to deal with them. First, more highways are in need of building. Second, strict traffic regulations are in need of issuing. Third, more training are given to drivers. Forth, we need to persuade people to observe traffic regulations and not to cross the street when the red light is on. If the four ways can work well, I’m sure the traffic jams in the city can be solved effectively.

你覺得大學(xué)生活怎么樣?大學(xué)生活的哪些方面你覺得最有趣的(刺激/挑戰(zhàn)/刺激/愉快)
How do you like university life? Which aspect of university life do you find most interesting (stimulating /challenging /exciting /enjoyable)?
With the expectation of the university, I came to Xinyang Normal University. I love this university at the sight of her, and I think the university life is colorful, stimulating, exciting, enjoyable, interesting, meaningful, and so on. Most important of all, I find college English class is most exciting for me.
First of all, college English class is student-centered and only speaking English. In middle and high schools, English classes were teacher-centered and bi-lingual, English teachers explained English grammars and new words in Chinese from the beginning to the end of each class, and we had little chance to speak English even in class. However, here English teachers give speeches in English, and we students are required to answer some questions, discuss some topics, and exchange our ideas, etc. only in English in class. I have to practice my spoken English as often as possible, day after day, now I find I can state my opinions clearly in spoken English in public. How pride I feel!
Secondly, college English class is more interesting and full of activities, such as role-playing, English competitions about telling stories, jokes or tongue twisting. Students are active to take part in all of these class activities to show their abilities and develop their hobbies. We come to class not only for knowledge but also for fun. How happy I am!
In all, college English class is completely different from those in middle and high schools, it’s so exciting and I do love it. I bet I will improve my English and achieve more here.
